28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28)
December 5, 2023. Dubai, UAE
In the recent Conference of the Parties (COP28) held in Dubai, ATMOsphere participated in the discussion surrounding the Global Cooling Pledge.
This pledge, initiated by the COP28 UAE Presidency, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the UNEP-led Cool Coalition, is a voluntary commitment aimed at integrating cooling sector considerations into global climate change mitigation strategies.
The pledge’s main objective is to motivate countries to reduce their cooling sector’s greenhouse gas emissions by 68% by 2050, using 2022 as baseline. It also includes provisions for annual progress reviews and a high-level meeting at each UN Climate Change Conference until 2030.
ATMOsphere has officially signed the Pledge, recognizing its potential to drive global adoption of low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) in cooling and refrigeration systems.
As of this announcement, over 60 state actors are reported to have supported the pledge. ATMOsphere encourages interested parties, state or non-state actors alike, to review and consider participation in this initiative, which can be done through the following link: https://coolcoalition.org/cop28-official-event-launch-of-the-global-cooling-pledge/
ATMOsphere remains committed to tracking and reporting on these developments within the cooling sector at future COPs.
